Preface

The Software Release Bulletin: OpenSSL and OpenSSH Release 2.0.0 for VOS (R521) documents the implementation of the product OpenSSL and OpenSSH Release 2.0.0. To install and use OpenSSL and OpenSSH Release 2.0.0, you need one of the following minimum operating-system releases:

  • VOS Release 15.1.1 (for ftServer V 100, V 200, and V 400 systems)
  • VOS Release 16.1.0 (for ftServer V 150, V 250, V 300, V 500, and V 502 systems)
  • OpenVOS Release 17.0.0 (for ftServer V 2302, V 4304, and V 6308 systems)

To rebuild OpenSSL and OpenSSH Release 2.0.0 from source code, you need one of the following minimum releases:

  • VOS Release 15.1.2ax
  • VOS Release 15.2.0ag
  • VOS Release 15.3.0
  • VOS Release 16.1.0

OpenSSL and OpenSSH Release 2.0.0 includes the following software:

  • OpenSSL Version 0.9.7e
  • OpenSSH Version 3.9p1
  • zlib 1.2.1, an open source compression/decompression library

This manual does not describe OpenSSL or OpenSSH in detail; it describes how to install and configure the VOS implementation. See Related Manuals for detailed information about OpenSSL and OpenSSH.

This manual is intended for people who administer a network of Stratus VOS modules, or who administer a single Stratus VOS module. It may also be useful for people who are developing distributed applications or networking software that require a secure socket connection and the ability to encrypt messages.

Before you use the product OpenSSL and OpenSSH Release 2.0.0 for VOS, make sure you have a working knowledge of the following software (for a list of the documentation, see Related Manuals):

  • OpenSSL, or access to the OpenSSL Project documentation
  • OpenSSH, or access to the OpenSSH Project documentation
  • VOS POSIX and access to POSIX documentation

Notation Conventions

This manual uses the following notation conventions.

Warnings, Cautions, and Notes

Warnings, cautions, and notes provide special information and have the following meanings:

Warning: A warning indicates a situation where failure to take or avoid a specified action could cause bodily harm or loss of life.
Caution: A caution indicates a situation where failure to take or avoid a specified action could damage a hardware device, program, system, or data.
Note: A note provides important information about the operation of a Stratus system.

Typographical Conventions

The following typographical conventions are used in this manual:

  • Italics introduces or defines new terms. For example:

The master disk is the name of the member disk from which the module was booted.

  • Boldface emphasizes words in text. For example:

Every module must have a copy of the module_start_up.cm file.

  • Monospace represents text that would appear on your terminal's screen (such as commands, subroutines, code fragments, and names of files and directories). For example:
change_current_dir (master_disk)>system>doc

  • Monospace italic represents terms that are to be replaced by literal values. In the following example, the user must replace the monospace-italic term with a literal value.
list_users -module module_name

  • Monospace bold represents user input in examples and figures that contain both user input and system output (which appears in monospace). For example:
display_access_list system_default

%dev#m1>system>acl>system_default
